I’ve recently been having a play with the app DeluxeFX, it’s fun, and while I do love it…. I’m not completely convinced…..
The app has a number of really colourful filters which when used create some interesting effects. The look is not for everyone, but for a little fun on Instagram or Facebook it’s worth the 99c price.
The following are examples of my original images on the left and DeluxeFX filters in use on the right. I have to admit I prefer my originals more than the filtered images in a couple of the examples, but I wanted to show some variety.

What I love most about the app is the ability to affect the light by using the ‘fine tuning’ option, and in turn really change the exposure. When playing with the black and white filter effect (which I LOVE) you can create the perfect black and white exposure. It takes me back to my darkroom days, exposing paper in 1 second intervals until you get the perfect balance of black, white and grey mid-tones.

The ‘fine tuning’ feature is really easy to use, just look for the sliding scale icon on the lower right hand side once you have your chosen filter selected and have a play. It is really amazing how different each filter can look by dialing back the ‘vibrance’ and increasing or decreasing the ‘light’. I’m a little more into subtle effects but I really love when an image has an amazing pop of colour.
The following is an iphone photo I took at Williamstown during one of our “Tuesday Adventure Days” with my little boys, I think it works beautifully with a filter.

I’m yet to get into the overlays (not usually a fan) but I have to say there are really some interesting and extremely tacky frames which can really give your photos the edge! (Excuse the pun)
So what are your thoughts? Have you tried DeluxeFX?
